🐉 Fuji 16 55 F2 8 Review
The fact that the Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 takes a smaller filter than the XF 18-55mm f/2.8-4.0 should be a big clue. The Sigma is also using a shorter zoom range than any of the other alternatives. The Sigma only covers a 2.8X range whereas the Fuji 16-55mm f/2.8 covers a 3.4X range.
The 16/2.8 has replaced (in most cases) the 14mm/f2.8 lens in my "travel" kit. The 16mm FOV is much more versatile than the FOV of the 14mm. The size, weight and WR make the 16mm/f2.8 a better choice in general, for me. The 14mm is a superb lens, but much more specialized than the 16mm lenses (both aperture versions), IMO.
3. Image Quality. As has been covered ad nauseum by every other review of this lens that I’ve read, the Fuji 18-55 isn’t your everyday cheapo, crop sensor, variable aperture kit lens. This lens goes from a relatively fast f/2.8 at the wide end to a reasonable f/4 at the long end. It is sharp, it is quiet, and it focuses quickly.
The XF 18mm f/2 has a 76.5° field of view, and a full frame equivalent 27mm focal length. The minimum focusing distance is around 7.09 inches or 18cm. The Fujifilm XF 18mm f/2 has no image stabilization and neither does my Fuji X-T3. When paired with the IBIS of the X-T4 or X-S10, the XF 18mm f/2 will gain 6 stops.
I think the underlying problem here is that Fuji have a number of very good lenses at prices where other manufactures would have more mediocre products. The 18-55 is a good example. Dull boring focal length - f2.8 compared with F1.4 or F2 primes - but actually pretty decent all things considered.
Primes – all is not well! Face painting - Spring Festival, Goldfields, Western Australia, 2018. Fuji X-T2, XF 16-55 @ 51mm, 2.8, ISO 1,000. Yes as we’ve discussed, primes offer a lighter package, faster aperture and are usually optically better than zooms – but they have their trade-offs was well.
True but you don’t get a lot of subject isolation on a 24-70 f/2.8 which is what the op was asking about. The 16-55 f/2.8 gave you about the same subject isolation as a 24-70 f/2.8 shot at f/4. That's just a fact of life when dealing with crop sensors. That's why I bought the Metabones Speed Booster.
If like me, you love shooting wide angle landscapes then the Fuji XF8-16 f2.8 lens with weather sealing has probably been on your radar since it first appeared on the Fuji roadmap last year. I’ve been happily using the 10-24mm since I switched to Fuji about three and a half years ago, it’s my most used lens by a long way, so I’ve been
Of course, by trading in my Fujifilm XF 18-55mm f/2.8-4 R LM OIS for the 16-55 f/2.8, I would be losing optical image stabilization, which is very handy during low-light situations. However, I will gain one more stop, as Fujifilm XF 16-55mm f/2.8 R LM WR is a fixed-aperture lens with f/2.8 throughout the zoom range.

The star of this week's long-term lens review is the Fujinon XF 16-55mm f/2.8 R LM WR. Enjoy! huge, also have the fuji 16-55 and it is small in comparison, I find
It is small and inconspicuous, and compared to the XF16mm f/1.4, this new 16mm is a mouse next to and elephant. It gives way for really unobtrusive shooting, hence it is perfect for getting up close in street- and documentary photography. For travelling this lens is also perfect.
Results varied at different focal lengths and f stops and in the center vs the corners with the 18-55 holding its own in quite a few combinations and being clearly better at 48mm and 55mm. The 16-55mm was clearly better at 23mm and 35mm. Other focal lengths were mixed.
